Sayaad sparks in Forbidden Apple Stakes at Belmont

July 4 victory for son of Street Sense

A nine month layoff didn't seem to bother Shadwell Stable's Sayaad (Street Sense) who posted a determined win in the Forbidden Apple Stakes on the turf at Belmont July 4.

In the seven-furlong race the four-year-old colt broke straight to the lead to set the pace. He began opening up his advantage around the turn, and when challenged in the stretch Sayaad dug in to find more and come away a winner.

A winner of the Dance Of Life Stakes at Saratoga as a three-year-old, Sayaad was a $450,000 Keeneland November purchase for Shadwell. Out of the Time For A Change mare Time For A Crown, the colt is a half-brother to G1-placed Coronet Of A Baron and Stakes winner Banga Ridge, and hails from the family of Bernardini's G1-winning daughter A Z Warrior.

A son of Street Cry, Street Sense is the sire of 11 Graded Stakes winners to date in his young career. Most recently his daughter Sweet Reason, already a winner of the G1 Spinaway Stakes at two, earned her second G1 win in the Acorn Stakes at Belmont. He is also the sire of G1 Humana Distaff winner Aubby K and multiple Graded Stakes winner and G1-placed Unlimited Budget. Street Sense is still the only horse to ever win both the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby.

Street Sense stands for $40,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
