Offlee Wild lands champion freshman honors

A little help from above ensures thrilling finish to title race.

On April 9, Heavenville became the very first winner for his sire and on the last day of 2009, the Heiligbrodt-bred colt galloped home for a place in the Listed Louisiana Futurity at Finger Lakes to secure the title of champion first-season sire for Offlee Wild.

The race to be leading freshman has been nip and tuck in recent months between Roman Ruler and Offlee Wild, whose 17 first-crop winners include the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine She Be Wild.

With just over $700 the difference in seasonal earnings between the two young stallions on December 31, Heavenville’s third place in the six-furlong contest added $12,040 to the pot to ensure victory for Offlee Wild. This was the fourth black-type performance from the colt in a busy juvenile campaign, which also saw him win the Listed D S ‘Shine’ Young Memorial Futurity in July.

The Stakes-placed Dant, Tomball, Certain Pride and Offlee Funny have all contributed to an excellent first season for Offlee Wild, whose offspring have earned a total of $1,951,283.

A son of Wild Again, Offlee Wild stands at Darley America for a fee of $7,500 Stands and Nurses.
