The Goat, one of three runners in the race sired by Midshipman – along with Ponteau and Demir – overtook Ponteau in the stretch and drew off to post an eight-length victory in the G1 Dos Mil Guineas at Hipodromo Chile on Saturday, 7 September.
A field of 14 went to the post in the Dos Mil Guineas, and at the start it was Soy Invencible that went right to the front. He was immediately joined by Ponteau and The Goat, and it was that trio that battled back-and-forth for the early lead.
As the field entered the far turn, Ponteau held a slight advantage over The Goat as Soy Invencible began to fade. In the stretch, it looked as though Ponteau was on his way to victory, but The Goat still had plenty of gas left in the tank and hit another gear, quickly sweeping past his rival to score an easy victory.
Bred in Chile by Haras Don Alberto, The Goat is out of the winning Rock of Gibraltar mare, Lavanda Aromatica, and hails from the family of Stakes winners Estocada and Luccina.
The Goat is the third Chilean G1 winner this year for his sire, Midshipman, who is also represented by Gran Dali (G1 Clasico Alberto Vial) and Cassis Violeta (G1 Premio Arturo Lyon Pena). In North America, Midshipman is the sire of 2024 Stakes winners Able Seaman, Mystic Seaport and Midshipman’s Dance.
