Frosted Departure broke like a rocket out of the starting gate and never looked back on his way to rolling to an eight-and-three-quarter length victory in the $100,000 Deputed Testimony Stakes at Laurel Park on Sunday, 28 July.
The four-year-old Frosted colt, who has won three of his six starts this season, was adding a third Stakes win to his resume, which was his second this year. The grey/roan colt captured the Lake Ouachita Stakes at Oaklawn Park in early May.
Ridden by Horacio Karamanos, Frosted Departure popped out of the starting gate and went right to the lead, quickly opening a two-length lead over his rivals. He was never threatened, as he led the field through the far turn and into the stretch, where he drew off while under a hand ride. Time for Trouble made a belated rally to take second, with Auto Glide finishing third.
Frosted Departure was bred in Kentucky by Alastar Thoroughbred Company and is out of Undeterred, a winning daughter of More Than Ready. In addition to Frosted Departure, Undeterred is the dam of Stakes winner Kynlie’s Empire (Classic Empire) and Graded Stakes-placed Preservancia (California Chrome). Also found in the immediate family are G2 winners Dream About (Cherokee Run), Rocketry (Hard Spun) and Deeply Undervalued (Kitten’s Joy).
Frosted is having an outstanding year, with seven Stakes winners to his credit. In addition to Frosted Departure, the stallion is also represented by Graded Stakes winners Post Time, already a three-time Stakes winner in 2024, including victories in the G2 Carter Stakes and G3 General George; Frost Free, winner of the G3 Chick Lang Stakes; the talented juvenile Bustling, a three-time Graded Stakes winner in Australia and Frost At Dawn (G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint).
