With the foaling season now in full swing, Darley stallion Henny Hughes has welcomed the arrival of his first reported foal.
Bred by Gaines-Gentry, he is out of the Forty Niner mare American River and was described by a delighted John Hayes as a, "good foal, really nice - we really like him." American River - who was herself unraced - has produced four winners to date including dual Stakes winner and G3 placegetter Boston Express. She is a half-sister to G3 winner Firm Pledge (who was also third in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes when trained in Europe).
Henny Hughes was an elite sprinter who became the only three-year-old ever to win the G1 King's Bishop and G1 Vosburgh, taking the latter in a Stakes record time of 1:08.13. Also a G2 winner as a juvenile, he was well supported during his first season at stud and his first in foal mares sold last year for up to $800,000.
He stands at Darley America at a fee of $40,000 Stands and nurses.
