Cody’s Wish outbattled Cyberknife to the finish line on his way to earning a hard-fought head victory in the G1 Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland on Saturday, 5 November.
The future Darley stallion is a four-year-old son of Curlin who was notching his fourth straight Stakes win and second consecutive G1 victory, after capturing the G1 Forego at Saratoga.
Ridden patiently by jockey Junior Alvarado, Cody’s Wish was reserved near the rear of the field as Slow Down Andy (by Nyquist) and Gunite led through the opening quarter mile. That pair were joined by Cyberknife at the half-mile marker, as Cody’s Wish began to pick off rivals on the far turn before swinging three-wide as the field entered the homestretch.
Cody’s Wish charged up alongside Cyberknife, who had taken the lead on the far turn, and the pair matched strides through the stretch and to the wire, with Cody’s Wish coming out on top by a head. Slow Down Andy re-rallied late to take third.
Future Darley stallion Cody’s Wish races as a homebred for Godolphin, and is out of the Tapit mare Dance Card, winner of the G1 Gazelle Stakes. Cody’s Wish is a half-brother to multiple Graded Stakes-placed Endorsed (Medaglia d’Oro) and Stakes-placed Bocephus (Medaglia d'Oro).
