Cavalieri remains perfect with victory in G1 Beholder Mile

Four-year-old Nyquist filly is now a G1 winner and a perfect four-for-four

Cavalieri kept her perfect record intact when she came from just off the pace to win the G1 Beholder Mile at Santa Anita on Saturday, 8 March.

The four-year-old Nyquist filly, who remains perfect in four starts, earned her first G1 win in the Beholder Mile. Cavalieri had previously captured the G3 La Canada at Santa Anita on 19 Jan.

Sent off as the even money favorite in the compact field of six, Cavalieri stalked her stablemate, Richi, as that one led from the start. It appeared as though Richi might shake free from the field on the far turn, but Cavalieri had other plans, and quickly drew alongside Richi as they hit the top of the stretch. Cavalieri then put her stablemate away with a sixteenth of a mile left to run, eventually hitting the line three-quarters of a length in front.

Richi held second, with Tarifa (Bernardini) taking third.

Bred in Kentucky by Alastar Thoroughbred Co. LLC, Cavalieri is out of the mare Stiffed, a multiple Stakes winning daughter of Steven Got Even and a half sister to multiple Stakes winners Speaking and Sea Streak. In addition to Cavalieri, Stiffed is also the dam of Affirmative Lady (Arrogate), winner of the G2 Gulfstream Park Oaks and runner-up in the G2 Demoiselle Stakes.

Nyquist is coming off a banner season in 2024, one which was capped off with his son, Johannes, winning his fifth Graded Stakes of the year in the G2 San Gabriel in December. In addition, Nyquist was also represented by the undefeated Champion Juvenile filly, Immersive and G1 winners Randomized and Tenma, who has already found success this year in the G3 Las Virgenes Stakes.

Nyquist is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $175,000, stands and nurses.
